AAA Damaged My Car During a Tow—Considering a Claim
I recently had AAA tow my car out of a tough spot filled with snow and ice. Unfortunately, the flatbed driver improperly wrapped the chains around parts located behind my front wheels. After the tow, I started hearing a clunking noise from the driver’s side wheel hub whenever I made a sharp left turn. I took my car to my local mechanic today, and he confirmed that the noise was due to a seized sway bar link on the driver’s side. Given the timing and circumstances, I have strong reasons to believe this damage occurred during the tow.
However, I’m hesitant to pursue reimbursement through my insurance. The cost of replacing the sway bar links is just below my deductible, which means I’d end up paying out of pocket and potentially face an increase in my premium if I went that route. Despite this, the repair costs are significant enough that I plan to file a damage claim with AAA.
I anticipate this may be a challenging process, so I’m reaching out to see if anyone here has successfully obtained reimbursement from AAA in similar situations. Any advice or experiences would be appreciated!
I’m really sorry to hear about the damage to your car during the tow; that sounds frustrating. It’s definitely a tricky situation when the costs are just below your deductible, making insurance seem less appealing. Filing a claim directly with AAA is a good step, and I hope their customer service is responsive to your situation.
While I don’t have personal experience with this, I’ve heard from others who have successfully received compensation from AAA. It often helps to gather as much evidence as possible, such as photos of the damage, any documentation from your mechanic about the issue, and a detailed account of the towing process. Make sure to document everything clearly when you file your claim.
I’d also recommend following up with AAA persistently, as sometimes claims can fall through the cracks. If they deny your claim or don’t respond, be prepared to escalate it or possibly file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau.
Good luck, and I hope you get the compensation you deserve!
