Black Box Insurance Update

I’ve now been using my hard-installed black box from Acorn Insurance for six months. I’ve heard that they tend to be quite lenient with their monitoring. I experienced my first warning yesterday for exceeding the speed limit at 37 mph in a 30 mph zone (totally my fault). However, I’ve consistently driven around 25-30 mph in 20 mph zones when it felt safe, and I’ve yet to receive any warnings for acceleration or other infractions.

Could it be that this particular road, often frequented by other drivers and officially marked as a 30 mph zone, is being monitored more closely? Or is it possible that the black box has just started operating more actively?

  1. It sounds like you’re kind of in a gray area with your black box insurance and the recent warning. It’s possible that Acorn Insurance has more sensitive settings for certain roads, especially if that area is known for speeding issues. If they issued a warning after you hit 37 in a 30, it could indicate that they’re monitoring speed more closely now, possibly due to increased enforcement in that area or updates in their tracking technology.

It’s also worth noting that while you’ve been conscientious about your speed in 20s, the black box can sometimes prioritize safety warnings based on specific thresholds. The fact that you’ve been compliant in other zones could mean that they’re considering overall driving behavior but still taking that one incident seriously.

If you’re concerned about the sensitivity of the black box or how it interprets your driving, it might be worth reaching out to Acorn directly for clarification on their criteria. That way, you can better understand how to avoid any future warnings while maintaining safe driving habits.
