Car Insurance Claim

Car Insurance Claim Inquiry

About six months ago, I was involved in an accident and filed a claim. I received a check made out to both me and a local body shop. The shop informed me that the parts would take three weeks to arrive. However, before that time was up, I had to travel for work, and now, six months later, I still haven’t had the repairs completed. Do I still have the right to my claim? Do claims have an expiration date?

  1. It sounds like you’re in a frustrating situation. Typically, insurance claims do not expire, but there can be some nuances depending on the insurance company’s policies and the specific details of your claim. Since you received a check that was made out to both you and the body shop, it’s important to ensure that the body shop cashes the check after the repairs are completed. If the repairs are not done and the situation hasn’t progressed, you might want to consider the following steps:

    1. Contact the Body Shop: Reach out to the body shop for an update on the parts and when they expect to be able to complete the work.

    2. Talk to Your Insurance Company: Inform them about your situation. They may have guidance on how to proceed or could even assist in resolving issues with the body shop.

    3. Check Your Policy: Review your insurance policy for any specific clauses regarding the timing of repairs and claims.

    4. Document Everything: Keep records of all communications with the body shop and your insurance company, as this may be important if you need to contest anything later.

In general, while your claim might not “expire,” you want to make sure you take action soon to avoid any potential complications.
