Claim Filed but No Damages Stated
Tennessee
Nearly a year ago, back in April, I was following a bit too closely when the car in front of me suddenly stopped on the interstate. I ended up tapping their vehicle, but there was no visible damage. While we were pulled over, two other accidents occurred nearby. We exchanged insurance information and then left the scene.
The other driver has filed a claim, but they haven’t mentioned any damages yet. If I reach the one-year mark without them filing for damages, will the claim just disappear? My insurance is with State Farm, and I did admit fault while also providing them with my dash cam footage.
In Tennessee, if a claim is filed but no damages are pursued within a year, it’s possible that the claim will not move forward, especially if the other party has not provided any evidence of damages. You should check with your insurance provider, in this case, State Farm, to understand their policies regarding claims and the time limit for filing damages. They can give you clarity on whether the claim will be considered inactive or if any further action is needed on your part. It’s always a good idea to document everything related to the incident just in case any issues arise later.
