Does my mom need to be included on my auto insurance policy?
My car is registered under both my name and my mom’s, and she’s listed on the loan as well. While we both have separate auto policies since we don’t live together, I’ve kept her on my policy as an additional insured driver for years. However, she never actually drives my car. Given that we both reside in Florida, is it still necessary to keep her on my policy?
In Florida, it’s generally a good idea to keep your mom listed as an additional insured driver on your auto policy, especially since the car is registered in both of your names and she is on the loan. Even if she never drives your car, having her on your policy can offer some protection in case of an unexpected situation, like her needing to drive it for an emergency.
That said, if you’re certain she won’t be driving your vehicle at all and you’re comfortable with the risk, you might consider removing her from your policy. However, consult with your insurance agent first to fully understand the implications, including any potential changes to your coverage or rates. It’s always best to clarify such details with your insurance provider to ensure you’re adequately protected in any situation.
