Did the insurance company admit their mistake?
I have a health insurance plan with an $1100 deductible. When I first signed up, I was told that talk therapy would be fully covered before reaching my deductible.
But after my first therapy session, I received a bill that suggested otherwise!
I called my insurance company for clarification, and they explained that there was a misunderstanding in their policy documents leading some agents to mistakenly believe that therapy was fully covered. In reality, I have to meet my deductible before any coverage kicks in, and after that, I’m responsible for 20% coinsurance.
Disappointing, but I’m an adult and can handle it, so I went ahead and paid the bill.
However, this morning I received an email saying I was refunded the entire amount I paid. The insurance company stated that I wasn’t actually responsible for the cost due to their earlier error. Should I call them again to get clarification on what’s happening? I’m a bit thrown off because it’s unusual for insurance companies to be this accommodating.
Thanks for any advice!
It sounds like you had quite a rollercoaster with your health insurance! It’s definitely not common for insurance companies to issue refunds like that, especially when it comes to mistakes in communication about coverage.
In this case, it seems like your insurance company recognized their error in informing you about the coverage for therapy sessions. Since they acknowledged that there was a misunderstanding with their policy documents, they likely decided to honor your claim and refund the invoice amount as a goodwill gesture.
Yes, it would be a good idea to contact them again for clarification. You can ask for a detailed explanation of why the refund was issued and how they plan to handle future therapy sessions moving forward. It’s important to ensure you understand your coverage fully, especially if there’s been a mix-up. Plus, getting it in writing can help prevent any future misunderstandings.
Good luck, and hopefully, you’ll get clearer answers this time!
