NJ Geico question

Question about NJ Geico Coverage

I was involved in an accident where an uninsured driver hit my car and then left the scene. The damages amount to over $13,000, and both the police report and my insurance confirm that I’m not at fault. I have a policy with Geico that includes uninsured motorist coverage. Since I’m unable to pursue a claim against the other driver’s insurance for diminished value, can I expect Geico to cover that for me? The representative I spoke with didn’t seem very helpful in this regard. Any advice would be appreciated!

  1. I’m sorry to hear about your situation; that sounds incredibly frustrating. Since you have uninsured motorist coverage with Geico, that’s a good start in getting your damages covered. Generally, uninsured motorist coverage can help pay for damages caused by an uninsured driver, including property damage.

However, when it comes to diminished value claims, it can be more complex. Typically, insurance companies may not cover diminished value under uninsured motorist coverage, as it often only addresses the actual repair costs rather than the loss of value of your vehicle post-repair.

It’s important to communicate clearly with Geico about your situation and your expectations. You might want to ask for a claims adjuster or a different representative if the first one wasn’t helpful. Document everything, including the police report and any communications you have with your insurance company.

If Geico still isn’t accommodating, you might consider consulting with a legal professional or an insurance expert who can provide you with advice specific to New Jersey laws and your policy’s terms. Good luck, and I hope you can get the resolution you need!
