Non owner insurance?

Question about Non-Owner Insurance

I have a question regarding non-owner insurance. My wife is the registered owner of a car we have, but she never drives it—she hasn’t gotten behind the wheel at all in the past two years. Can I remove her as a listed driver on my policy, considering she’s the sole registered owner?

For context, we have Esurance in New York and multiple vehicles covered under the same policy.

  1. It’s great that you’re looking into the specifics of your insurance policy! You can generally remove your wife from your policy as a driver even if she is the registered owner, especially since she doesn’t drive the car. However, keep in mind that since she is still the registered owner, her name may still need to be associated with the vehicle for insurance and legal purposes.

When you call Esurance, ask them about “non-owner” insurance options or whether removing her as a driver would affect your coverage. They may have specific policies or requirements regarding registered owners versus listed drivers. Additionally, make sure that any changes align with your state’s laws and the insurance requirements.

It’s a good idea to discuss your situation with your insurance agent for clarification and to ensure that there are no gaps in coverage.
