Progressive added someone i don’t know

Subject: Unexpected Addition to My Progressive Insurance Policy

Hi everyone, I’m a 31-year-old female and I purchased my car two years ago, getting insurance with Progressive. I opted for paperless communication and haven’t been checking my policy regularly. Recently, I noticed that my insurance premium went up even though I didn’t make any changes. Upon investigating, I discovered that they added someone to my policy—someone I don’t even know—who lives at my previous address. When I inquired about this, I was informed that my information had been sold to a third party, which is how they were able to add her. I never received any notification about this nor did I give my consent. Has anyone else experienced something similar?

  1. It sounds incredibly frustrating to find someone you don’t know added to your policy without your consent. Unfortunately, this is not an uncommon issue; some insurance companies do obtain information from third parties for various reasons, including underwriting and risk assessment. However, they are usually required to inform you about any changes to your policy.

You should definitely reach out to Progressive again to clarify the situation and ensure that this person is removed from your policy immediately if you didn’t authorize it. It’s also a good idea to ask for details on how they obtained your information and to inquire about privacy policies moving forward. If all else fails, consider filing a complaint with your state’s insurance department. Others may have experienced something similar, so sharing your situation here might help others who are facing the same issue. Stay persistent, and I hope you get it resolved soon!
