Progressive scam

Progressive Scam Alert

I recently discovered that Progressive added my husband and me to our daughter’s boyfriend’s auto policy, resulting in a rate increase.

To clarify, we have never lived together—he’s never lived with us, and we’ve been in our home for 18 years.

Instead of conducting even a minimal investigation, Progressive is insisting that we provide extensive personal documents, including W-2s with our current address, to prove we don’t live together.

My husband reached out to our state’s Commissioner of Securities and Insurance to report this issue, and it turns out they are already investigating Progressive for this questionable practice, describing it as “legally dubious.”

  1. I’m sorry to hear about your difficult experience with Progressive. It sounds incredibly frustrating to be added to a policy without your consent, especially when you’ve had no involvement in that situation. It’s concerning that they’re requesting such personal information from you to prove a negative, and it does seem like they could have done more due diligence before making these changes.

It’s good to hear that you already took action by contacting your state’s Commissioner of Securities and Insurance. Hopefully, their investigation can lead to a resolution for you and others who might be facing similar issues. In the meantime, it might be worth documenting everything related to this situation, including any correspondence with Progressive, just in case you need to take further steps. Hang in there, and I hope this gets sorted out quickly for you!
