Progressive won’t give me options for proof of residency

Struggling with Proof of Residency for Progressive
Hello everyone, I could really use some help with this issue.

I recently purchased auto insurance from Progressive right after getting my car and driver’s license. Now, they’re asking for proof of residency, but the only acceptable documents are utility bills in my name or a driver’s license that’s been active for at least a year. My driver’s license is brand new—I just passed my test a few weeks ago—and since I live with my parents, none of the utility bills are registered in my name.

I attempted to submit my W-2, as their website suggested, but that didn’t work either. I’ve called customer service, and they confirmed that only utility bills and old driver’s licenses are valid. I can’t be the only one facing this hurdle. Is there any other way to verify my residency?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

P.S. I’m located in Minnesota.

  1. It sounds really frustrating to be in that situation with Progressive! Here are a few suggestions that might help you prove your residency:

    1. Bank Statements: If you have a bank account, you can request a statement that shows your name and current address. Many banks offer online access, so you might be able to download a statement immediately.

    2. Lease Agreement: If you live at your parents’ house, you could ask them to write a letter stating that you reside there. While it might not be an official document, sometimes companies accept a signed letter confirming your residence, especially if you add a copy of their ID.

    3. Government Correspondence: Any official mail from a government agency (like the IRS, for example) with your name and address can often work too. If you’ve received any documents regarding taxes or student loans, that could be helpful.

    4. School Documents: If you’re a student, any school-related documents that include your name and address might be acceptable as well, such as enrollment verification or a transcript.

    5. Insurance or Other Contracts: If you’ve taken out any other contracts in your name (like a phone contract), those documents could potentially serve as proof.

    6. Ask Directly for Alternatives: Since you have already called customer support, consider asking if there are any alternative forms of documentation that can be used in special circumstances, especially since you have a unique situation.

If none of these options work, you might want to consider escalating the issue within Progressive or asking to speak with a supervisor who may have more flexibility in reviewing your case.

Good luck! I hope you find a solution soon!
