Reminder About Solicitation and Private Messaging in This Sub
It’s time for an important reminder regarding the guidelines of this subreddit. There is absolutely no reason to offer private contact to another user, particularly if they are inquiring about coverage or claims. Here’s the key rule to keep in mind:
The sole rule of r/Insurance is that solicitation is strictly prohibited. This includes asking users to send private messages for any reason, offering to provide quotes for coverage, or trying to persuade agents or buyers to use a specific insurance carrier. Our goal at r/Insurance is to create a space where individuals can share information and ask questions without the fear of being solicited by agents. This applies to adjusters, underwriters, and brokers as well since we do not pre-screen participants.
If you subscribed to this sub, you may have received a similar message.
If you believe this rule doesn’t apply to you, please reconsider. There are no exceptions, including scenarios like “but I asked them to message me!” This subreddit serves as a safe environment for users to explore insurance-related questions. It is not a place for anyone to seek profit, whether they are agents, public adjusters, software vendors, personal injury attorneys, headhunters, diminished value experts, or anyone else not here to provide free assistance without expecting compensation.
If you receive any messages regarding business offers—such as insurance quotes, legal services (yes, there are lawyers who unethically solicit on Reddit), damage assessments, or anything similar—please report it to the moderators via mod mail or within this thread. Also, make sure to inform the admins about the message (though we won’t receive that report). We take these issues very seriously.
We dislike having to ban users. In fact, that is the opposite of why the moderators took on this role. However, since we don’t vet users before they post, we must enforce rules against those who violate them.
With that said, we are fortunate to have a thriving community of members who are here not only to assist but also to protect the integrity of this space. Thank you all for your commitment to helping others navigate the complexities of insurance and for keeping those who think they don’t need to follow the rules in check.
Thank you for the important reminder about the rules of this subreddit. It’s crucial that we maintain a space where everyone can feel comfortable asking questions and sharing information without the concern of being solicited. The guidelines are in place to protect our community and ensure that the focus remains on providing free, valuable assistance to those navigating the often confusing world of insurance.
Let’s all do our part to keep this community clean and informative. If you see any solicitation or receive direct messages that seem inappropriate, please don’t hesitate to report them. Together, we can foster a supportive environment where members can engage freely. Thank you to the moderators for your efforts in maintaining this space, and to all members for your participation and cooperation!
