Subrogation Inquiry
Hello! I was recently involved in a motor vehicle accident, which is expected to be deemed the other driver’s fault. Unfortunately, our policy doesn’t include rental coverage, so we’ve been using our secondary vehicle while our SUV is being repaired. With a vacation coming up later this week, I’m wondering if we can hire a car service for transportation to and from the airport and then submit the receipts for reimbursement during subrogation. Our secondary vehicle is not large enough to accommodate our family and luggage. If this is possible, are there any restrictions on the type of service we can use or the costs that would be covered? Thank you!
Hi! I’m sorry to hear about your recent accident, but it’s good to know that you’re getting things sorted out. In general, when it comes to subrogation and reimbursement for expenses related to an accident caused by another driver, you may be able to submit receipts for transportation services, such as a car service, if you can establish that these expenses were necessary due to the accident.
Here are a few things to consider:
Documentation: Keep all receipts for the car service and any related expenses, as you’ll need to provide this during the subrogation process.
Reasonableness: The costs should be reasonable and justifiable. It’s a good idea to choose a service that is standard for the area and appropriate for the length of your trip.
Limits on Expenses: Some insurance companies may have specific limitations on the types of transportation expenses they will cover. It’s worth reviewing your policy or consulting with your insurance agent for any specific guidelines they may have regarding transportation costs.
Pre-approval: It might be a good idea to reach out to your insurance company before booking the car service to ensure that they are on board with your plan and to clarify any limitations they might have.
Necessary Expenses: Be prepared to explain why this transportation was necessary. Since your secondary vehicle is not suitable for your family’s needs, you have a reasonable argument for hiring a car service.
I hope you have a stress-free vacation and everything works out with your subrogation claim! Safe travels!
