Verbal Agreement on the Phone
I received a phone call from State Farm stating that they would cover the property damages for which I’m liable. However, I don’t have anything documented. Is there a chance they could change their mind?
I damaged my apartment gate in the incident, resulting in its complete loss, but my vehicle was unharmed. The gate hasn’t been repaired yet, and I’ve since sold my vehicle while the claim is still open. I had intended to sell it beforehand and luckily found a buyer shortly after the accident.
Should I contact State Farm to request written confirmation of their agreement?
Thanks for your advice!
Yes, it’s definitely a good idea to reach out to State Farm to get the agreement in writing. Verbal agreements can be difficult to enforce, and having something in writing provides clarity and serves as proof of their commitment to cover the damages. Make sure to explain the situation, including the call you had and their acknowledgement of liability. Additionally, it’s worth asking about the timeline for repairs and any next steps you need to take, especially since the claim is still open. Having written documentation will help ensure that your interests are protected throughout the process. Good luck!
