Why is Dynamic Drive so terrible? Is there a better option out there?

I chose Direct Auto because it was the most affordable option I could find online. Now I’m in the process of signing up for Dynamic Drive, the app that monitors your driving. However, right when I created my account, it stated that signing up grants them permission to TRACK MY BROWSING HISTORY—every link I click and every website I visit, whether their app is open or not! Plus, getting through to customer service takes over 30 minutes, and when I do manage to reach someone, they often seem unhelpful. The Terms of Service includes some alarming clauses that feel way too invasive for a simple discount.

I have some questions:
Are there companies I should consider instead? Should I even go for the discount?
Is there any way to prevent them from tracking my browsing history?

  1. It sounds like you’ve had a frustrating experience with Dynamic Drive. Privacy concerns are definitely valid, especially when an app claims access to your browsing history. It’s good that you’re questioning it and looking for alternatives.

    1. Alternatives: There are several other insurance companies that offer usage-based insurance programs, such as Progressive with their Snapshot, State Farm’s Drive Safe & Save, and Allstate’s Drivewise. It’s worth comparing quotes and reading reviews to see what customers have to say about their experiences, especially regarding customer service and privacy.

    2. Discount considerations: When it comes to discounts, weigh the potential savings against the privacy trade-offs. If the tracking is too invasive for your comfort, it may not be worth it, even if it could lead to some discount.

    3. Opting out of tracking: Check the app settings or their privacy policy to see if there’s an option to disable browsing history tracking. If it’s not clear, you might want to reach out to their customer service (though I understand you’ve had difficulty with that) for clarification on data collection.

Ultimately, prioritize companies that respect your privacy and offer good customer service. It’s perfectly okay to shop around until you find a policy that suits your needs without compromising your comfort.
