Car accident

Car Accident Update

I was recently involved in a car accident where I had the green light, and another driver ran the red light, crashing into the driver’s side of my vehicle. Unfortunately, my airbag didn’t deploy, and I hit my head; now I’m experiencing significant pain in my left shoulder. The other driver initially fled the scene but returned about ten minutes later to provide me with his insurance information, likely because there are cameras at the intersection and he was driving a company truck.

I went to the hospital for evaluation and thankfully there are no major injuries, though my car is totaled. This is my first accident and I’m feeling a bit lost regarding the next steps, especially in terms of getting a rental car or finding a new vehicle. I don’t have extra funds available, but I need to figure out a way to get to work. Any advice would be appreciated!

  1. I’m so sorry to hear about your accident! It sounds incredibly stressful, especially being a first-time experience. Since the other driver fled the scene but then returned with insurance information, it’s good that you have that documented. Here are some steps you can take next:

    1. Contact the Insurance Company: Reach out to your insurance provider and inform them about the accident. They can guide you on how to file a claim and what information they need from you.

    2. Gather Documentation: Keep a record of everything related to the accident, including photos of the damage, your medical records, and any notes from the hospital visit. This documentation will be helpful for the insurance claims process.

    3. Rental Car: Check with your insurance company to see if your policy includes rental car coverage. If the other driver is at fault and has insurance, their insurance might cover your rental costs as well.

    4. Car Replacement: Once your claim is processed, your insurance should help you with the value of your totaled car. This can help you find a replacement vehicle, or you may be able to use the payout for a down payment on a new car.

    5. Consider Legal Advice: If you’re feeling overwhelmed or if the other driver’s insurance company is giving you trouble, consulting with an attorney who specializes in car accidents might be beneficial.

    6. Take Care of Your Health: Since you mentioned shoulder pain and hitting your head, keep monitoring your symptoms and follow up with a doctor if needed.

    7. Plan for Transportation: In the meantime, look into public transportation options, rideshare apps, or talking to friends and family for rides so you can get to work.

Know that it’s okay to ask for help during this time. Reach out to friends or family for support if you need it, and take things one step at a time. You’ll get through this!
