Car Insurance Inquiry
Hi everyone,
A few weeks ago, I was involved in a motor vehicle collision where I was not at fault. Since the accident, I’ve been experiencing back issues that have required visits to my emergency and primary care doctor, and I’ve also had to miss some work due to the pain. After undergoing X-rays, I’ve discovered that I have several chronic back conditions, such as degenerative disc disease. However, I was completely unaware of these issues and had no pain before the accident.
My question is: should I inform the other driver’s insurance about these newly identified chronic problems? I’m concerned that they might use this information to deny coverage for my missed work and related expenses, especially since I never sought medical help for back pain prior to the accident.
I appreciate any advice you can provide. Thanks!
I’m sorry to hear about your situation. When dealing with car insurance claims, it’s important to be honest with the insurance company about your medical history, but you might not need to disclose every detail. Since you didn’t have any back pain or treatment prior to the accident, you should emphasize that your issues arose as a direct result of the MVC.
Here are some tips:
Be Honest: If the insurance company asks about your medical history, it’s best to be truthful. They may find out about your chronic conditions through medical records anyway.
Emphasize the Impact: Focus on how the accident directly caused your current health issues and any lost wages. Document all your visits and keep records of how the pain has affected your daily life and work.
Consult a Professional: Consider speaking with a personal injury attorney. They can help you navigate the claims process and protect your interests.
Document Everything: Keep track of all medical visits, treatments, and any correspondence with the insurance company. This documentation will be helpful if any disputes arise.
While it can be concerning to disclose new conditions, your primary focus should be on how the accident impacted your life. Good luck, and take care!
