Claim filed but never stated damages.

Claim submitted, but no damages reported yet.

In April, nearly a year ago, I was following a vehicle too closely when they suddenly braked on the interstate. I bumped into them, but there was no visible damage. While we waited to exchange information, two other accidents occurred nearby. The other driver filed a claim, but I haven’t heard anything about damages being claimed yet. If we reach the one-year mark without any damages being reported, will the claim simply be dropped? I was insured through State Farm and I admitted fault, providing them with my dash cam footage.

  1. In Tennessee, there is a one-year statute of limitations for filing a personal injury or property damage claim. If no damages have been formally claimed or asserted within that time frame, the claim may indeed become void. Since it’s been almost a year and the other party has not filed for damages, it’s possible that the claim could be closed without any further action.

However, it’s always a good idea to keep an eye on any communications from your insurance company or the other party involved. If you have any concerns or if it seems like the claim is still open, you might want to reach out to your insurer for clarification or guidance on how to proceed. Keeping detailed records and staying informed will help protect your interests in case something changes.
