Coworker Damaged My Car in the Parking Lot

Today at work, I found out that one of my coworkers hit my car while parking. I managed to get her insurance information and license plate, but she prefers to handle it out of pocket (up to $1,000). However, our conversation was quite confrontational, and she insisted that I wasn’t considering her side of the story. I’m feeling frustrated about the whole situation. Any advice would be appreciated!

  1. I’m sorry to hear about the situation with your car. It sounds really frustrating. Since you were able to get her insurance information, you have a couple of options. Here are some things you might consider:

    1. Document Everything: Make sure you take photos of the damage and the scene where the incident happened. It’s important to have a record of what happened.

    2. Get an Estimate: Consider getting a repair estimate for the damage. This will give you a clearer idea of the costs involved.

    3. Communication: While it sounds like your coworker was confrontational, try to keep communication as calm and professional as possible. You could explain that you appreciate her willingness to cover costs but also want to ensure that any repairs are done correctly.

    4. Insurance Vs. Out of Pocket: Weigh the pros and cons of going through her insurance versus accepting the out-of-pocket payment. Sometimes, insurance handles things more formally, which could be beneficial if the damage is significant.

    5. Follow-up: If you decide on the out-of-pocket route, make sure to get everything in writing. You might want to create a simple agreement that outlines what she has committed to pay.

    6. Consider Your Rights: If things continue to be confrontational or if you feel uncomfortable, it might be worth discussing the incident with a supervisor or HR to ensure that you feel safe and supported in your workplace.

I hope things get resolved smoothly! Keep your head up.
