Glass coverage in CA?

Glass Coverage in California?

I recently discovered that I don’t have specific glass coverage for my windshield. I have a crack, and in order to replace it, I need to go through my main accident coverage, which comes with a $1,000 deductible. Safelite quoted me $1,100 for the replacement, so using my insurance doesn’t make sense—it would just increase my future rates. This means I’m left to pay the full amount myself. I’ve heard that some people have glass coverage that allows for zero deductible and doesn’t affect their rates.

Is this issue specific to California, or did I just choose the wrong insurance provider? Currently, I’m with State Farm, touted as the “No. 1” insurance company, and I want to avoid any issues if I need to file a claim in the future. If it is the provider’s fault, any recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks!

  1. It sounds like you’re dealing with a frustrating situation. In California, there are indeed insurance policies that offer specific glass coverage or glass repair coverage with little to no deductible. However, not all insurers include this as part of their standard coverage, and it can vary greatly from one company to another.

It seems like your current plan with State Farm has a higher deductible for glass replacement, which can be a downside if you end up needing to replace your windshield. Some insurers, like Geico or Progressive, may offer better glass coverage options that could potentially protect you from the high out-of-pocket cost you’re facing.

To avoid higher rates in case of a claim, you might want to look into other insurers that offer a standalone glass coverage policy. It’s also a good idea to reach out to your current insurer to see if they have options to add or modify your policy for better glass coverage without drastically affecting your premium.

Finally, comparing quotes and policies from various companies can help you find the best coverage that suits your needs without the hefty deductible. Good luck!
