Help Please! Car Insurance

Subject: Need Help with Car Insurance Details

Hi everyone,

I’m reaching out for assistance regarding an old car insurance issue. I moved to NYC from the suburbs about 10-11 years ago, sold my car, and haven’t thought about car insurance since. Now, I’m contesting a ticket from that time, and I need to track down what type of insurance I had back then.

I’ve already requested 2-3 accident reports from NY State but haven’t had any luck finding that information. My lawyer also doesn’t have access to this data, and the DMV can’t provide details about my past insurance either. I was involved in one minor fender bender, but that insurance information wasn’t listed in the accident report either.

Does anyone know of another way to find this information? I appreciate any suggestions or advice you might have. Sorry if I tagged this incorrectly—I’m not a frequent poster here.

Thanks so much for your help!

  1. Hi there!

I can understand how frustrating this situation must be for you. Here are a few suggestions that might help you track down your past insurance information:

    1. Contact Your Previous Insurance Companies: If you remember the names of any insurance companies you might have used in the past, try reaching out to them directly. They may have records, even if it’s been a long time.

    2. Credit Report: Check your credit report. Sometimes insurance companies will report to credit bureaus. You may find information about any insurance policies you had.

    3. Insurance Information Institute (III): Reach out to the Insurance Information Institute. They might have resources or suggestions for how to track down old insurance records.

    4. State Insurance Department: Contact the New York State Department of Financial Services. They may be able to assist you in finding out if an insurer has a record of your policy.

    5. Medical Records: If you had any medical treatment related to the fender bender, sometimes medical records will note the insurance information that was provided at the time.

    6. Financial Records: If you paid for your insurance via bank transfers or checks, reviewing your old bank statements might help jog your memory or provide leads.

    7. Online Forums or Communities: Sometimes others have gone through similar experiences and might have suggestions based on what worked for them.

I hope one of these options leads you to the information you need. Good luck!
