Travel trailer insurance inquiry.
I’m considering buying a travel trailer to live in and plan to keep it parked at an RV lot for most of the time. Since I’ll only be moving it a couple of times a year, do I actually need insurance for it? I’m based in Texas. If insurance is not mandatory, is there a type of coverage available for the trailer that’s similar to homeowners insurance?
It’s great to hear you’re considering purchasing a travel trailer! In Texas, while it’s not legally required to have insurance for a travel trailer that you plan to keep stationary, it is highly recommended. Having insurance can protect you from potential damages, theft, or liabilities, especially since you’ll be living in it full-time.
You can look into different types of insurance policies for your travel trailer. Many insurance providers offer specialized RV or trailer insurance that can cover both the physical structure and personal belongings inside. This type of insurance can be similar to homeowner’s insurance, providing coverage for things like fire, storm damage, and liability.
Since you’ll be moving your trailer only a couple of times a year, you might consider getting a policy that includes coverage while it’s stationary, as well as during transit. Be sure to shop around and compare quotes, as different providers offer various levels of coverage and features.
Finally, don’t forget to check with the RV lot where you plan to stay, as they may have specific insurance requirements or recommendations for residents.
