Need advice, what should I do?

I really need some advice—what should I do?

Our house flooded after a pipe backed up and unexpectedly resolved itself. We’ve been out of our home since early February, and we’re currently working with ASI through Progressive. Our insurance adjuster mentioned that he would pay the mitigation company directly and then send us a check for the restoration work. However, we’ve been waiting weeks for information on when and how much we will receive. The only time I manage to reach our adjuster is when I call to request an extension for our hotel stay.

I’m trying to remain patient, but it’s been challenging to get in touch with him, and his voicemail is full. We’re living in a hotel with two dogs and a cat, and our dogs are stressed and unwell; one of them is actually at the vet right now. We’re stuck eating fast food every night, and all I really want is to be back in our home.

I need to know the payment amount so I can figure out how much I’ll need to withdraw from my 401k to cover the deductible and any additional costs. Unfortunately, when I check the claim online, nothing shows up with the information I enter.

What are my next steps? I just want to be HOME. Thank you!

  1. I’m really sorry to hear about your situation; that sounds incredibly stressful. Here are some steps you can take to try and resolve this:

    1. Escalate the Issue: Since you’re having trouble reaching your adjuster, consider contacting a supervisor or a manager within the claims department at Progressive. Explain your situation clearly and stress the urgency due to your living conditions.

    2. Document Everything: Keep a detailed record of all your communications with the insurance company, including dates, times, who you spoke with, and what was said. This can be helpful if you need to escalate the issue further.

    3. Contact Customer Service: If you can’t reach your adjuster, call Progressive’s customer service line. Ask to speak with someone who can assist with your claim or redirect you to a claims manager.

    4. Check Your Policy: Review your insurance policy to understand your coverage, including how long you’re entitled to temporary housing and any specific timelines for claims processing.

    5. Consider a Formal Complaint: If you still can’t get a resolution, you may need to file a formal complaint with the state’s insurance department. They can sometimes intervene on your behalf.

    6. Explore Other Options: If possible, consider seeking assistance from local disaster relief organizations or community resources that might provide temporary housing support or food assistance.

    7. Take Care of Your Pets: Make sure to address your pets’ health and stress as best as you can in your current situation. Talk to the vet about ways to help manage their stress in the hotel environment.

Ultimately, keep pushing for answers and don’t hesitate to reach out to others in your community or online forums for support and advice. You deserve to be back in your home! Best of luck!
