Progressive added someone i don’t know

Subject: Concerns About My Progressive Insurance Policy

Hi everyone,

I’m a 31-year-old female who purchased my car two years ago and got Progressive insurance. I opted for paperless statements, so I haven’t been regularly checking my policy. Recently, I noticed that my insurance premium increased, despite not making any changes to my coverage.

Upon reviewing my policy, I found that they added an individual I don’t recognize—someone who lives at my previous address. When I inquired about this, I was informed that my information was sold to a third party, which led to the addition of this person to my policy. I never received any notification or gave my consent for this to happen.

Has anyone else experienced something similar? I’d appreciate any insights or advice on how to handle this situation. Thank you!

  1. I’m sorry to hear about your situation—it sounds really frustrating! It’s concerning that they added someone to your policy without your consent. You have the right to know exactly what’s going on with your insurance and who’s covered under your plan.

You should definitely consider reaching out to Progressive again for clarification and ask them to remove that person from your policy. It’s also a good idea to review your policy details regularly, even if you prefer paperless, just to avoid surprises like this. Furthermore, you might want to look into their privacy policies or inquire about how they handle data sharing with third parties. It may also be worth exploring whether there are other insurance companies that can offer you better service and transparency.

If you feel they aren’t responsive, filing a complaint with your state’s insurance department could be another route to pursue. Have you considered taking those steps?
