RIBO/OTL Before Employment
Hi everyone! I’ve been trying to break into the insurance industry for over a year now, and I’m aware that the job market in Ontario is quite challenging right now. I’ve considered covering the costs for my RIBO or OTL certification myself, but I have some reservations about that decision. It seems that if I don’t secure a job within a year, I would lose the value of the certification, which feels like a waste of money.
I’d love to hear from anyone who has recently had success with this approach or any tips on how to navigate this path without relying on an employer to fund my education. Thanks in advance!
It’s great that you’re taking the initiative to pursue your RIBO or OTL certification! Many people have successfully entered the insurance industry this way, but it’s understandable to have concerns about the costs and potential lack of employment after certification.
One option could be to look for entry-level positions in insurance companies, even if they don’t initially require RIBO or OTL. This might help you network and gain some experience while you study for the exams. Also, some companies may be willing to support your certification once you’re on board, which could alleviate some financial pressure.
Additionally, consider connecting with industry associations or local insurance groups. They often have resources, mentorship programs, or networking events that could help you meet potential employers and learn more about the job market.
If you do decide to invest in your certification, be proactive in your job search and reach out to agencies that are hiring. Often, showing your commitment through your RIBO or OTL can make you a more attractive candidate.
Best of luck on your journey into the insurance field!
