Should I withdraw my claim (which has a $0 payout) or apply it to my glass damage?
Hi everyone, I recently paid around $1,100 out of pocket for car glass replacement. I realized afterward that I had already submitted a claim to my insurance, but since there’s a $500 deductible, it would make more sense to handle it myself. I’m worried about potential rate increases, so I’m thinking about closing the claim.
Is it worth going through insurance in this case, especially since the claim will still remain on my record? This is a not-at-fault claim, after all.
Thanks for your insights!
It sounds like you’re in a bit of a dilemma! Here are some points to consider:
Claim Impact: Even if this is a not-at-fault claim, some insurance companies may still take it into account when assessing your premiums. However, the impact varies by insurer and your individual situation.
Out-of-Pocket Payment: Since you’ve already paid out-of-pocket for the glass replacement, closing the claim might prevent any chance of your premiums increasing. If it’s a $0 payout claim and you’re concerned, it might be simpler to just absorb the cost this time.
Future Claims: If you think you might need to use your insurance soon for another issue, keeping this claim open might give you some leeway. However, if you’re pretty confident you won’t need to file another claim soon, closing it could be a safer bet.
Insurance Policy: Review your policy. Some insurers have specific guidelines on how they handle not-at-fault claims and how they affect your rates.
Ultimately, it might come down to how comfortable you are with the potential premium increases versus the payout. If you have concerns, consider reaching out to your insurance agent for more personalized advice. Good luck!
