Speeding ticket

First Speeding Ticket

Hey everyone, I just received my very first speeding ticket for going 20 mph over the limit, and it’s for $115 here in Oregon. I’m 19 and have a clean driving record. I was just trying to get past a slow vehicle. The officer was nice and issued me the lowest fine possible, but I’m really concerned about how this will affect my insurance. Will my rates go up significantly?

  1. Getting your first speeding ticket can definitely be stressful, especially with concerns about insurance rates. In Oregon, your insurance premium could increase after receiving a ticket, but the exact amount can vary depending on your insurer and your driving history.

Since you have a clean driving record, your insurer may take that into account and not raise your rates as much as they would for someone with multiple infractions. Generally, a single ticket might lead to a moderate increase, but it’s often not as severe as if you had multiple violations.

It might be a good idea to contact your insurance company directly to ask how this ticket could impact your rates. And remember, you could consider taking a defensive driving course, which some insurers offer discounts for, potentially offsetting the increase. Just make sure to stay safe and drive within the speed limits in the future!
