Waterproof Vinyl Question

Question About Waterproof Vinyl Flooring

I recently experienced a flooded home due to a pipe bursting in my attic, which went on for about 40 minutes before it was stopped. Unfortunately, the flooding caused serious damage to the insulation in the attic, ceilings in 80% of my home, as well as the walls and baseboards. The adjuster from my insurance company (Farmers) believes that my floors are waterproof vinyl and claims they did not sustain any damage and can simply be dried out. However, after they removed the baseboards, I noticed that the corners of the floors are peeling up and there’s water underneath them. This issue seems to extend throughout the entire house without any breaks. I’ve tried searching online but couldn’t find much information. Has anyone experienced something similar? Can vinyl floors really remain undamaged underneath? As a new homeowner, I’m not very knowledgeable about this topic, so any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

  1. I’m really sorry to hear about the flooding in your home—it’s such a tough situation to deal with. While waterproof vinyl flooring is designed to resist water damage, it doesn’t make it completely impervious, especially if water is sitting under the planks or between the seams. If the corners are peeling up and there’s water underneath, that likely indicates that the flooring has absorbed some moisture, which can lead to issues over time, like mold or warping.

It’s crucial to have a professional assess the situation. If the adjuster believes the floors are unaffected, it may be worth getting a second opinion from a flooring expert or a water damage restoration company. They can help determine if the flooring needs to be removed to properly dry out the area underneath. As a new homeowner, it’s understandable to feel overwhelmed, but getting the right help can make a big difference. Good luck, and I hope your home gets back to normal soon!
