Insurance Guidance Needed
I was involved in a car accident on Saturday, where the other driver was at fault. I have Progressive insurance, but they informed me that they can’t take any action at the moment unless the other driver is uninsured. The other driver was insured with Direct, and she has already initiated a claim with them. I also called Direct today to provide my information.
However, the other driver was working for Uber Eats at the time of the accident. I’m aware that Uber has secondary insurance that varies depending on whether the driver is actively engaged in a pickup or delivery.
My question is: should I reach out to Uber Eats to file a claim as well? I’m really hoping to have the front end damage on my 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche repaired rather than have it totaled. I depend on my truck, and I’m concerned that if they total it, I won’t receive enough compensation to replace it.
I’m sorry to hear about your accident; that sounds really stressful. Since the other driver was working for Uber Eats at the time of the accident, it’s definitely a good idea to reach out to Uber’s insurance as well. Typically, rideshare companies like Uber have liability insurance that covers drivers when they are active on a delivery or pickup. This could provide additional coverage for your damages.
You should document everything, including any conversations with both insurance companies and Uber. It might also be helpful to speak to a representative from Uber’s insurance to clarify their policies surrounding accidents while their drivers are working. Keep pressing for updates on your claim with Direct as well. The quicker you can get a clear understanding of all the applicable insurance coverages, the better your chances of getting your truck fixed without it being totaled.
In addition, consider consulting with a legal expert who specializes in auto accidents, especially since there are multiple insurance parties involved. They can provide guidance specific to your situation and what steps to take next. Good luck, and I hope your truck is back on the road soon!
