NYS – looking to switch insurance carriers

Looking to Change Car Insurance in NYS

I’ve been with Geico, but my premium just increased by another $150 for the next six months. They say it’s due to factors in NYS, but I’ve noticed this trend consistently since I joined in April 2021.

I’m considering shopping around for full coverage insurance for my car, but I’m not sure which companies are still affordable these days.

For anyone in NYS who has switched away from Geico, which insurer did you choose? Were you able to get comparable coverage for a lower price?

  1. Switching insurance carriers can definitely be a good move if you’re finding your premiums escalating without much explanation. A few companies that folks in NYS often mention when switching from Geico include:

    1. State Farm: Many people appreciate their customer service and they often have competitive rates for full coverage.
    2. Progressive: They’re known for their flexibility and user-friendly app, and you might find a good rate depending on your driving record.
    3. Liberty Mutual: They often offer discounts that could help lower your premium.
    4. Allstate: They have a variety of coverage options and discounts, which can make them competitive against Geico.
    5. Travelers: Some people have reported good rates with them, especially when bundling policies.

It might also be worth considering a local broker who can compare multiple companies for you. Additionally, keep an eye out for discounts (like for safe driving, bundling, or even good student discounts) that can further reduce your costs. Make sure to compare not just the premiums but also the coverage options and customer service ratings. Good luck with your search!
