Owner Retention for a Car with a Salvage Title
State Farm has classified my 2003 Nissan Maxima as a total loss due to their insured’s liability. My car already had a salvage title prior to the accident. Because of this, they are stating that I cannot retain ownership of the vehicle, claiming that the pre-existing salvage title disqualifies me from doing so.
Has anyone encountered a similar situation or have any advice? I’m located in Ohio. Thank you!
I’m sorry to hear about your situation with your Nissan Maxima. When it comes to salvage titles and insurance claims, it can get a bit complicated. In Ohio, the rules regarding owner retention for vehicles with salvage titles can vary based on insurance company policies.
Since your car already had a salvage title before the incident, State Farm may have specific guidelines stating that they won’t allow owner retention in this case. Often, insurance companies have strict criteria for total loss vehicles, and having an existing salvage title can influence their decision.
However, you may want to review your policy or speak directly with your insurance representative for clarification. It’s possible that there are options available depending on your unique situation or the specifics of the claim. Consulting with the Ohio Department of Insurance or a legal expert might also provide you with additional insights or potential avenues to explore.
If you have any documentation or communication from State Farm regarding this decision, it could be beneficial to keep that handy as you navigate your options. Good luck!
