Question about Progressive Insurance
I’m hoping to get some clarity on my situation. My daughter had an accident with her car in front of our house on March 2nd. On March 5th, Progressive sent a tow truck to take the vehicle to an IAA auction yard for appraisal. The appraiser evaluated the car on the 7th. When I spoke to a Progressive representative on the 8th, she needed to confirm a few details and mentioned that the car was considered a total loss. I wasn’t aware of that yet, as she thought I had already been informed. She quickly went over the situation, explaining that the vehicle was valued at around $8,200 (though I don’t recall the exact figure), which was a bit lower than I expected but manageable.
Now, when I logged into the app to check the claim status, I see that it is marked as a total loss. However, the only details available are the appraiser’s repair estimate of $8,289 and the deduction for my deductible. Can anyone clarify if this is the actual value they are assigning to the car or just the repair estimate? Since we still owe money on the vehicle, I want to plan accordingly. I’ve reached out to our adjuster but have not received a response yet. Thanks for any insights!
It sounds like you’re in a bit of a tricky situation, and I completely understand your concern, especially when it comes to dealing with a total loss and the outstanding balance on the car.
From what you described, it seems that the repair estimate of $8289 is not necessarily the value Progressive is offering for your car, but rather what it would cost to repair the vehicle if it weren’t deemed a total loss. Since they’ve already classified it as a total loss and valued your car at just over $8200, you should base your expectations on that figure.
The key number you want to focus on is the total loss value they provided, which is typically what they will offer you minus your deductible. It’s understandable to want clarity on this, especially when you still owe money on the vehicle. The value can fluctuate based on various factors, but Progressive should finalize this information and provide you with an official settlement offer.
Since your adjuster hasn’t gotten back to you, you might want to try reaching out again or asking to speak with a supervisor if necessary. They should be able to clarify the valuation and any next steps. You can also check your policy documentation or Progressive’s website, which often has helpful FAQs regarding total loss claims.
I hope you get the answers you need soon!
