State Farm Auto Estimates – unclear as to status

State Farm Auto Estimates – Status Update Unclear

I was rear-ended at high speed by a driver insured by State Farm, who has accepted 100% liability for the incident.

I received a notice stating, “The appraiser has completed your estimate. Once you receive your payment, you’ll pay the repair shop of your choice directly.” The estimate lists $6,152 for repairs, along with an attached itemized PDF completed by a staff appraiser.

Does this mean that they have approved the repairs? I’m aware that the repair costs exceed the vehicle’s actual cash value (ACV), depending on the algorithm used.

Also, it may seem strange, but I’m feeling quite anxious about getting back in that car, especially since my last memory in it was being hit at a red light by a driver going 45-50 mph. Would it be possible for me to simply give them the title and use the payout to purchase a used car instead?

Just to clarify, I was fully stopped at a red light when the accident occurred.

I won’t delve into details about my injuries, as my main concern revolves around the claims process, particularly regarding the estimate.

  1. It sounds like you’re going through a lot right now, and it’s completely understandable to feel anxious after such an experience.

Regarding your question about the estimate: When State Farm says that the appraiser has completed your estimate, it typically means that they have approved the repair costs of $6152 for your vehicle. However, since you mentioned that the repair costs are slightly above the actual cash value (ACV) of your car, it’s important to clarify with them directly. Generally, if the costs exceed the ACV, they may offer you the option of totaling the vehicle instead of proceeding with expensive repairs.

As for your comfort and emotional well-being, it’s perfectly reasonable to consider selling the car instead of having it repaired, especially if you feel uncomfortable getting back into it after the accident. If you choose to go this route, you should discuss this option with your claims adjuster. They will provide guidance on how to handle the title and the process of receiving compensation.

Make sure to communicate your feelings and concerns to the claims representative—they should be able to assist you through this process while keeping your best interests in mind. Best of luck, and take care of yourself during this time!
