Total Loss Settlement Without Official Document?
Hello everyone,
I’m currently working on my total loss payout with Geico. They’ve asked me to sign a Power of Attorney and a mileage statement, and they’re sending over the title to finalize everything. However, I haven’t received any official document that states the payout amount; I can only see the figure on the Geico app. Is this typical? Since this is my first experience totaling a car, I just wanted to double-check if this is standard practice.
Hi there!
It’s understandable to feel uncertain since this is your first time dealing with a total loss settlement. Generally, it’s not uncommon for insurance companies to request documents like a Power of Attorney (POA) and a mileage statement without providing a formal document outlining the payout amount. However, you should definitely keep a record of the payout amount as shown in the Geico app and consider reaching out to customer service for clarification.
Make sure you have confirmation of the amount in writing before signing any documents, as this will protect you in case of any discrepancies. If you have concerns, don’t hesitate to ask Geico for a more formal statement regarding the payout. Good luck with your settlement!
