Total loss settlement no document?

Subject: Total Loss Settlement Without Documentation?

Hello everyone,

I’m currently working with Geico to finalize my total loss payout. They’ve asked me to sign a Power of Attorney and a mileage statement and will be sending over the title to complete the process. However, I haven’t received any official document that states the payout amount—only the amount is visible on the Geico app. Is this standard procedure? This is my first time dealing with a totaled car, so I’d appreciate any insight. Thank you!

  1. Hi there!

It’s not uncommon for insurance companies like Geico to process claims without providing a formal document stating the payout amount right away. The Power of Attorney (POA) and mileage statement are generally standard procedures to authorize them to handle the title transfer and facilitate the payout.

However, if you’re uncomfortable or uncertain, it’s a good idea to reach out to Geico directly for clarification. You can ask them to confirm the payout amount in writing before you sign anything. This will give you peace of mind and ensure that everything is documented properly.

Best of luck with your claim!
