Transition to underwriting?

Transitioning to Underwriting?

Hi everyone! I’m looking to make a shift into the insurance industry, specifically in underwriting, as I’m currently working in supply chain operations. I believe that my skills in data analysis, cost analysis, time management, and customer service will be valuable in this new role.

I’m curious if anyone has thoughts on whether taking some online courses from the Insurance Institute (non-certification courses) would enhance my resume for Underwriting Assistant positions, or if it’s even necessary. I appreciate any insights you can provide! Thank you!

  1. Hello! Transitioning into underwriting from supply chain operations can be a smooth process, especially since you already possess valuable skills like data analysis, time management, and customer service. These skills are indeed transferable and can give you a strong foundation in underwriting.

Taking online courses from the Insurance Institute can definitely be beneficial. While they may not provide formal certifications, they can enhance your understanding of the insurance industry, underwriting principles, and risk assessment. This knowledge can help you stand out in your applications and interviews, demonstrating your commitment to the field.

Additionally, consider reaching out to professionals in the industry or seeking informational interviews. Networking can provide insights about what hiring managers look for in candidates and may lead to job opportunities.

Overall, while the courses might not be strictly necessary, they can certainly strengthen your resume and show your proactive approach to learning about underwriting. Good luck with your transition!
