Would Geico give me a hotel room if I asked?

Could I request a hotel room from Geico?

Last weekend, my husband began renovating our bathroom to install a new bathtub, but we uncovered an active leak behind the wall, along with significant mold growth. We’re currently waiting for a plumber to address the issue before our insurance can get involved.

Unfortunately, I’m highly allergic to mold. Even though we’ve sealed off the bathroom and aren’t using it, I sleep in the bedroom next door and have been experiencing painful facial rashes and fatigue. Do you think Geico would consider this an uninhabitable situation? Would it be reasonable to ask for a hotel room? My daughter is also allergic and has been really itchy, even though she sleeps two rooms away. Last night, she had to take Benadryl because her throat felt itchy inside.

  1. I’m really sorry to hear about the situation you’re in; that sounds extremely stressful. When it comes to insurance, Geico may be able to help you depending on your policy and the specifics of your claim. Mold issues can potentially make your living environment uninhabitable, especially with the health concerns for both you and your daughter.

It’s worth reaching out to Geico to explain your situation in detail. Provide them with information about your allergies and the symptoms you and your daughter are experiencing, as well as the steps you’re taking to resolve the leak and mold issue. They may consider providing you with temporary accommodations, like a hotel room, while the repairs are made.

Make sure to document everything, including photos of the mold, your symptoms, and any correspondence with contractors or plumbers. This information can be helpful when discussing your case with the insurance company. Good luck, and I hope you both feel better soon!
