Complicated car insurance

Navigating car insurance can be tricky. My car is registered under my mother’s name because it was more affordable when I first purchased it, given my age at the time. My father pays the insurance, which is in his name, but I’m not listed as a driver. Will this create any problems if I end up in an accident?

  1. It sounds like you’re in a tricky situation with your car insurance. Since the car is registered in your mother’s name and your father is paying for the insurance but hasn’t listed you as a driver, there could be potential issues if you were to get into an accident.

Insurance companies typically require all licensed drivers who regularly operate a vehicle to be listed on the policy. If you’re not listed and you get into an accident, the insurance company might deny a claim or decide not to cover the damages, arguing that you were an unknown driver at the time of the incident.

It’s a good idea to discuss this with your father and mother to make sure you’re covered correctly. They may want to update the insurance policy to include you as an authorized driver to avoid any potential issues. Always best to be safe and ensure you’re properly insured!
