Comprehensive Perils – Progressive
I recently discovered dirt in my gas tank. During an inspection for a check engine light caused by a loose cap, the dealer found the issue.

Will Progressive consider this vandalism and total my vehicle, or will I need to file a police report first?

  1. It’s unfortunate to hear about the damage to your vehicle. Generally, Progressive covers vandalism under comprehensive coverage, but you typically do need a police report to file a claim for vandalism. This helps to document the incident and may be required by the insurance company for them to proceed with the claim.

It’s best to contact Progressive directly to discuss your situation in detail. They can provide you with specific guidance on how to file a claim and what documentation you may need, including whether a police report is necessary in your case. If the damage is extensive enough, they will also assess whether the vehicle can be totaled.
