Damage from parts flying off a truck

Truck Parts Causing Damage

I have a video of debris flying off a semi truck and hitting my windshield. Unfortunately, the driver didn’t stop, so I only managed to grab his license plate. I’ve submitted a claim to my insurance and filed a police report. I’m curious—will my insurance pursue the truck driver, and will I still need to pay my deductible if the truck’s insurance covers the damages?

I have full coverage.

  1. I’m sorry to hear about the damage to your vehicle! Typically, when you file a claim with your insurance after an incident like this, they will investigate the situation, which may include reaching out to the truck driver or their insurance company.

Regarding your deductible, many insurance policies allow for that to be waived if they can recover the costs from the responsible party—in this case, the truck driver. However, specific outcomes can depend on the details of your policy and state laws. It’s a good idea to speak directly with your insurance adjuster to clarify whether you will be responsible for the deductible or if they anticipate recovering the costs from the truck driver’s insurance. They’ll provide the most accurate guidance based on your situation.
