Hit by a semi truck at 6 mo pregnant

Accident Involving Semi Truck While Pregnant

I was involved in an accident at six months pregnant when a semi truck hit me (they were cited for following too closely). Even though my baby was not yet born at the time of the accident, can I still file a claim on their behalf? I’m planning to represent myself in this matter since I have what are referred to as soft tissue injuries.

  1. I’m really sorry to hear about your accident. In most jurisdictions, even if the child was unborn at the time of the accident, you can file a claim on their behalf for any injuries or potential impacts that may arise from the incident. This often includes looking at both the immediate effects on you and any potential long-term effects on your child’s health or development due to the accident.

Since you’re preparing to represent yourself, it might be beneficial to gather all relevant medical documentation, accident reports, and any evidence related to the semi truck’s liability. Keep track of your own medical expenses and any potential future costs that could arise from the injury.

Additionally, consider consulting with a personal injury attorney, even if it’s just to get some initial guidance on the process and ensure you’re considering all aspects of your case. They may also be able to help you understand any specific laws regarding claims for unborn children in your area. Best of luck, and take care of yourself and your baby!
