Insurance denied claim, never attended appointment

Insurance Denied Claim for Missed Appointment

I received an email from my insurance, UHC, promoting a program called Real Appeal with the headline “Achieve Your Weight Loss Goals Now at No Extra Cost.” Intrigued, I signed up and created an account. However, I recently found out that UHC denied the claim, and now I owe $162.23.

I had scheduled a Teledoc appointment but unfortunately missed it, and I didn’t realize the claim situation until afterward. I know this is my fault for not checking sooner. I haven’t rescheduled the appointment either. I’d share the email, but I’m not sure how to do that.

  1. It sounds incredibly frustrating to deal with an unexpected bill, especially after signing up for a program that was advertised as no additional cost. Since you missed the Teledoc appointment, it’s possible that the insurance provider is treating it as a missed service, which could lead to the denial of the claim.

Here are a few steps you could consider taking:

    1. Contact UHC: Reach out to UnitedHealthcare’s customer service. Explain your situation and provide any relevant details, including the email advertisement for the Real Appeal program. They might be able to clarify why the claim was denied and if there’s any possibility of overturning that decision.

    2. Review the Terms: Check the details of the Real Appeal program and its terms and conditions. Sometimes, programs have specific requirements about appointments and participation that need to be met to avoid unexpected charges.

    3. Reschedule the Appointment: If you have not yet used the services of the program, consider rescheduling the missed Teledoc appointment. This could potentially help in resolving the issue, and they might still be able to assist you with your weight loss goals.

    4. Payment Options: If the claim cannot be appealed, ask UHC about payment options or plans to help manage the cost.

It may also be helpful to document all communications you have with the insurance company for your records. I hope this gets resolved quickly for you!
