Looking for bike valet insurance

Seeking Bike Valet Insurance

Hi everyone! I manage a volunteer non-profit organization dedicated to advocating for pedestrians and cyclists in our urban community.

We have been running a bike valet service at our local farmers market, allowing guests to safely park their bikes while they shop. This initiative has been a fantastic way to engage with our community. However, we recently learned from our current insurance provider that our event is no longer covered under our policy. Unfortunately, other insurers we’ve contacted also do not offer coverage for this type of event.

As a temporary measure, we’ve considered having participants sign waivers before using the bike valet service, but our board is hesitant about this approach.

Does anyone have recommendations for insurance companies that provide coverage for bike valet events? Your help would be greatly appreciated!

  1. Hi there!

It sounds like you’re doing invaluable work for your community, and I can see how important the bike valet service is for both your organization and the event attendees. I understand the challenges you’re facing with insurance coverage for your bike valet event. Here are a few suggestions that might help:

    1. Specialized Insurance Providers: Look for insurance companies that specialize in coverage for events and non-profits. Companies like Event Helper or ACT Insurance specialize in short-term event insurance and may offer coverage for bike valet services.

    2. Umbrella Policies: Some organizations opt for umbrella insurance policies that can provide extra liability coverage for special events. This might include coverage for your bike valet service under broader event coverage.

    3. Local or State Bike Advocacy Organizations: Connect with other non-profits or advocacy groups that might have experience with bike valet services. They may have recommendations for insurance providers or even existing partnerships that provide insurance at a group rate.

    4. Community Partnerships: Consider teaming up with local businesses or bike shops that may have insurance that covers this type of service. A partnership could also help share costs and reduce liability.

    5. Consult with an Insurance Broker: Insurance brokers often have access to a wider range of carriers and can help you find niche coverage that may not be directly advertised.

    6. Liability Waivers and Other Mitigation Measures: While asking people to sign waivers can feel uncomfortable, consider developing a clear communication plan to explain why you’re implementing it. Emphasizing safety and community support may help alleviate any concerns.

I hope these ideas are helpful, and I wish you the best of luck in securing the coverage you need! If anyone else has suggestions or experiences to share, it would be great to hear from you.
