Question about Progressive Insurance Claim
I’m hoping someone can help clarify my situation. My daughter had an accident with her car in front of our house on March 2nd. On March 5th, Progressive sent a tow truck to pick up the vehicle and took it to an IAA auction yard for an appraisal. The appraiser assessed it on the 7th. When I spoke with a Progressive representative on the 8th, she mentioned that the car was deemed a total loss. I wasn’t aware of this yet, and she thought I had already been informed. After quickly explaining the situation, she said they valued the car at just over $8,200 (I can’t recall the exact figure), which was a bit lower than I had anticipated, but I accepted it.
Now, when I check the status of the claim through the app, I see it’s noted as a total loss, but the only information available is the appraiser’s repair estimate of $8,289, along with a deduction for our deductible. Is this repair estimate the actual value of the car, or is it just for repairs? We still owe money on the vehicle, so I’m trying to figure out what to expect moving forward. I’ve reached out to our adjuster but haven’t received a callback yet.
It sounds like you’re in a bit of a confusing situation, but I can help clarify things a bit! The $8,289 figure you see on the appraiser’s document is typically the estimated cost of repairs to the vehicle, which suggests that the car is considered a total loss if the repair cost exceeds its actual cash value (ACV).
In total loss claims, insurance companies usually assess the ACV of the car, which is the amount they’ll pay out, and that’s typically based on the vehicle’s market value just before the accident rather than the repair costs. Since you mentioned they valued the car at around $8,200, that should be the amount you can expect to receive from Progressive, minus your deductible.
It’s essential to confirm this with your adjuster or a representative at Progressive since they can provide the official numbers and clarify any amounts related to your deductible. Don’t hesitate to reach out again if you don’t receive a response; you might also consider contacting customer service for a quicker answer. Good luck, and I hope you get everything sorted out soon!
