Storm damage to rental car

Damage to Rental Car Caused by Storm

Hi everyone, I hope you can help me clarify a situation I’m facing. I was recently in a rear-end accident, and the other party’s insurance is covering my rental car while my vehicle is being repaired. I parked the rental in a carport to protect it from a strong storm, but unfortunately, a tree broke and hit the rear driver’s side door.

Now I’m unsure whose insurance should cover the damage. Would it be covered by Enterprise? My homeowners insurance? Or my car insurance? Any guidance would be appreciated!

  1. I’m sorry to hear about the damage to your rental car. In this situation, the responsibility for the damage typically depends on a few factors.

    1. Rental Car Insurance: If you purchased additional insurance through Enterprise, that policy may cover the damage. It’s worth checking your rental agreement and any insurance documents associated with it.

    2. Your Auto Insurance: If you have comprehensive coverage on your personal auto insurance policy, it might cover the damage to the rental car, since the damage was due to a falling tree rather than a collision.

    3. Homeowners Insurance: Typically, homeowners insurance does not cover damage to rental vehicles. However, in some cases, personal property coverage might apply, but that’s less common.

    4. The Other Party’s Insurance: Since the rental car is being covered by the other person’s insurance (since they were at fault in the rear-end collision), you may want to file a claim with their insurance as well.

It’s best to contact your insurance provider and the rental car company to clarify the situation and see what options are available. They should be able to give you the most accurate advice based on your specific policies.
