Total Loss Settlement Without a Document?
Hi everyone,
I’m currently working on obtaining a total loss payout from Geico. They’ve asked me to sign a Power of Attorney and a mileage statement, and they’re sending over the title to finalize everything. However, I haven’t received any document that specifies the payout amount; I can only see it on the Geico app. Is this typical? This is my first experience with totaling a car, so I just want to confirm if this is normal. Thanks!
Hi there!
It’s understandable to feel a bit uncertain about the process, especially if it’s your first time dealing with a total loss settlement. It’s not uncommon for insurance companies to require you to sign certain documents, like a Power of Attorney (POA) and a mileage statement, to facilitate the payout process.
However, typically, you should receive a written confirmation or official document outlining the payout amount before finalizing everything. This serves to ensure that there are no misunderstandings about the settlement. If you only see the amount in the app and haven’t received any formal documentation, I recommend reaching out to your Geico representative for clarification. Ask them to provide a written statement of the payout amount for your records and peace of mind.
Make sure you’re comfortable with all aspects of the settlement before you sign anything! Best of luck with your claim!
