Which insurance?

Insurance Inquiry

I was involved in a car accident on Saturday, where the other driver was at fault. My insurance company, Progressive, has informed me that they can’t take any action at the moment unless it turns out the other driver doesn’t have coverage. The other driver has insurance through Direct and has already begun the claims process on her side. I also provided my information to them today.

However, she was driving for Uber Eats when the accident occurred. I’m aware that Uber has different insurance policies based on whether their drivers are actively engaged in pickups or deliveries.

My question is, should I reach out to Uber Eats to file a claim as well? I’m really hoping to have the front-end damage on my 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche repaired instead of facing a total loss. I need this truck, and I worry I wouldn’t get enough to replace it if it’s deemed a total loss.

  1. It sounds like you’re in a challenging situation, and it’s good that you’re taking proactive steps to get your vehicle repaired. Since the other driver was working for Uber Eats at the time of the accident, there may be additional insurance coverage available through Uber that could help with your claim. Here are a few steps you should consider:

    1. Contact Uber Eats: Yes, you should reach out to Uber Eats’ insurance provider or customer support to inform them about the accident. They can clarify whether the driver was active on a delivery or awaiting a pickup, as this affects which part of their insurance policy is in effect.

    2. Documentation: Gather all relevant documentation related to the accident, including the police report, photos of the damage, and medical records if applicable. This information will be helpful when communicating with both the driver’s insurance and Uber.

    3. Stay in Touch with Direct Insurance: Keep following up with Direct, the other driver’s insurance, to check on the status of your claim. They may have a process for addressing accidents involving drivers for hire.

    4. Check Your Coverage: Review your own insurance policy with Progressive. Sometimes having coverage like uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage can offer additional protection.

    5. Consult an Attorney: If you’re finding the situation complicated or if issues arise, you might want to consult with a lawyer who specializes in accidents or insurance claims.

Your priority should be to ensure your truck gets fixed promptly. Keep advocating for yourself throughout this process. Good luck!
