Aflac calendar year question:
I recently submitted a claim for a Wellness Benefit with a date of service in February 2025. However, Aflac denied my claim, stating that a Wellness Benefit had already been paid out for this calendar year.
The last Wellness Benefit I received was for services rendered in November 2024, which falls under the previous year.
My policy started in May 2015, so I’m wondering if their definition of “calendar year” runs from May to April instead of the typical January to December.
Could they have made an error in denying my claim?
It sounds like you’re dealing with some confusion regarding the definition of the “calendar year” in relation to your Aflac policy. Typically, a calendar year refers to January to December, but some policies may have different definitions based on when they were initiated or specific terms outlined in the policy documentation.
Given that your policy began in May 2015, it is possible that Aflac has a specific interpretation of the calendar year for your wellness benefits that aligns with your policy dates. However, it’s also important to clarify that if your last wellness claim was in November 2024, that should fall outside of the 2025 benefits period, assuming they are defined by the traditional January-December calendar year.
To resolve this issue, it would be best to review your policy details or contact Aflac customer service directly for clarification. They should be able to provide you with the specifics regarding how they define the calendar year for your benefits and help clarify why your claim was denied. If there was an error on their part, they’ll guide you on how to appeal or resubmit your claim.
