Car insurance question

Car Insurance Inquiry

Hi everyone,

I hope you’re doing well. A few weeks ago, I was involved in a motor vehicle collision for which I am not at fault. Since the accident, I’ve been experiencing back issues that have required visits to my ED and primary care physician, and I’ve also had to miss some work. After some X-rays, I discovered I have several chronic back conditions, including degenerative disc disorder. However, prior to the accident, I had no pain and was unaware of these issues.

My question is whether I should inform the other party’s insurance about my newly discovered chronic problems. I’m concerned they might not cover my lost wages and other related expenses, but I’ve never sought treatment for back pain before this incident.

I appreciate any advice you can offer!

Thank you!

  1. It’s understandable to be concerned about how your new medical information might impact your claim. Since you were not aware of these chronic issues before the accident and had no previous symptoms, it’s important to communicate this clearly to the insurance company. Here are a few points to consider:

    1. Be Honest: You should disclose any medical conditions, but emphasize that these issues were asymptomatic and unknown to you prior to the accident. This shows that your injury is a direct result of the MVC.

    2. Documentation: Keep thorough documentation of all medical visits, diagnoses, and treatments. Having medical records that confirm you were symptom-free before the accident will support your case.

    3. Consult a Professional: It might be helpful to discuss your situation with a personal injury attorney. They can provide guidance on how to handle communications with the insurance company and ensure you receive the compensation you deserve for your missed work and medical expenses.

    4. Personal Injury Claim: If you haven’t already, consider filing a personal injury claim. This can help cover medical costs, lost wages, and pain and suffering related to the accident.

Ultimately, being transparent with the insurance company while reinforcing that the accident exacerbated pre-existing conditions that were previously unnoticed is crucial. Good luck, and I hope you find relief from your back pain soon!
