Thinking About Changing Insurance Carriers
I’m exploring my options for car insurance, as my employer offers discounted rates through Liberty Mutual, Travelers, and Farmers. I tried to search for discussions about these companies but couldn’t find a “search within the subreddit” feature (using an iPad here). I’d love to hear from current policyholders—what’s your experience like?
Also, do any of these carriers offer a program similar to State Farm’s Drive Safe and Save? With that program, you get a discount for letting them track your driving habits. I signed up for it last summer and I’m currently receiving a 36% discount on one vehicle and 25% on the other. I only drive about 2,000 miles a year between both cars due to working from home, yet I’m still paying around $1.25 per mile for insurance. Any insights would be greatly appreciated!
When considering switching carriers, it’s great that you already have some discounts through your employer! Here’s some feedback on the three companies you mentioned:
Liberty Mutual: They offer a program called “RightTrack” which is similar to State Farm’s Drive Safe and Save. It tracks your driving habits and can provide discounts based on safe driving behaviors. If you drive less than 2,000 miles a year, you might benefit significantly from this program.
Travelers: Travelers has a program called “Intellidrive” that also tracks your driving habits. This program can provide discounts based on how you drive, much like the other two.
Farmers: Farmers offers a program known as “Signal” which also tracks your driving. It can provide discounts based on your driving behavior—encouraging safe driving habits in exchange for potential savings.
Since you already receive such significant discounts with State Farm, it would be worthwhile to compare the potential savings from these programs with what you currently pay and see if one of the new options could offer you better overall savings. Also, consider other factors such as customer service, claims process, and coverage options when switching. Good luck with your search!
